A New York group is pressing legislators to include the state's Medicaid-funded Assisted Living Program in an existing captial financing program.

Christine Wise-Valdez with the Empire State Association for Assisted Living says including the Assisted Living Program in the $1.2 billion Capital Restructuring Financing Program will enhance the quality and financial viability of New York's health and long-term care delivery system.  Wise-Vazquez says the Assisted Living Program that serves low-income seniors with nursing home-eligible care that is more home-like and at a more relaxed pace.  She says the ALP has the potential to save the state millions in Medicaid dollars, as its Medicaid reimbursement rate is half the nursing home rate.
