Madison County’s Public Health Director announced today that the Health Department received laboratory results confirming that the gastrointestinal outbreak associated with the Hotel Solsville’s Easter Buffet was caused by norovirus.
The Health Department reports that the most common symptoms noted in this outbreak are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and/or stomach cramps, lasting 24-60 hours.
In consultation with the Health Department and in advance of laboratory results, the Hotel Solsville voluntarily closed operations for 24 hours in order to conduct intensive cleaning and sanitizing throughout the food service facility. After the conclusion of an inspection by the Health Department on Thursday May 1st, the food service operation was reopened.
“The Hotel Solsville has been responsive to our recommended measures to ensure the safety of its food and food service operations,” said health director Eric Faisst. “The Health Department will continue its heightened surveillance of both the establishment and in the community to ensure the end to this outbreak.”
To date, the Health Department has received over 60 reports of ill individuals associated with the Solsville Hotel’s Easter Buffet.
