Dream Act Advocates Arrive At Albany

Dream Act Advocates Arrive At Albany

Albany, N.Y. - Labor unions and immigration advocacy groups are back in Albany after the state Senate rejected a bill that would provide financial aid to New York students in the country illegally.

Advocates for the New York Dream Act were already scheduled to be in Albany on Tuesday to lobby for the bill, which was rejected Monday afternoon by the Senate's ruling majority after the measure was brought to the floor of the chamber with little notice.

The 30-29 vote was two votes short of the 32 needed to pass, a rare defeat for a bill brought to a vote in the Senate. One mainline Democrat, Ted O'Brien of Rochester, was the only member of his conference to vote against the measure.
