East Syracuse-Minoa board of education voted to begin sub-contracting the district's food service program, resulting in the layoff of two dozen workers.

Board president Deborah Kodel said in a released statement that the decision to sub-contract was forced upon the district by what she called "the increasingly constricted financial environment that school districts operate under." She said those decisions are always difficult and never taken lightly. Kodel added that those laid off will receive priority status for interviews with the new company.
