A fire chief in Oswego County has been arrested by State Police for allegedly stealing at least 20 thousand dollars from his department.
Chief Joseph Smegelsky Junior of the Minetto department has now been charged with grand larceny and he's being held without bail.
This all came about after the state comptrollers office conducted an audit of the squad and found the money missing. They contacted the State Police.
Smegelsky is accused of using the departments debit and credit cards ot make personal purchases for things like guns, motorcycle parts and merchandise to support his personal landscaping business.
The comptrollers office says they're audit is still ongoing to see if more money may be missing. Smegelsky was arraigned in Town of Volney Court and he has a court appearance next week.
