UTICA, N.Y. (AP) _ A 53-year-old Pennsylvania man who was driving drunk has admitted running over and killing a central New York teenager on a bicycle.
Gary Svecz of Forest City, Pa. pleaded guilty in Oneida County Court on Wednesday to aggravated vehicular homicide. Svecz, whose blood-alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit at the time of the accident last May, told the court he didn't realize he had run over 13-year-old Neil Pedersen when his pickup truck veered off a road near Oneida Lake.
The Observer Dispatch of Utica reports that Svecz had been drinking rum in his hotel room before driving that night.
Svecz said he pleaded guilty to avoid putting everyone through a trial and faces six to 18 years in prison at sentencing Dec. 20.
