The Manlius Town Board voted unanimously to repeal a controversial law involving political signs that was likely to end up in federal court.

The law, which prohibited lawn signs until 30 days before an election, was an effort to preserve the town's aesthetics, but former SU Newhouse dean David Rubin had sued the town over the law, saying it violated First Amendment free speech rights. The town board says it will work on a law that respects both free speech and the town's appearance. The repeal is effective immediately.
