The Route 11 bridge over the Oneida River in Brewerton was unexpectedly closed Thursday after a potential problem was discovered.
Gene Cilento with the Department of Transportation says a routine inspection of the bridge turned up a problem with a connection to the bridge floor, which could have resulted in what he called "some serious issues."
Cilento says the bridge was shut down yesterday afternoon and repairs to the bridge will begin Friday. He says it will take at least a day or two, but beyond that he does not know how long the work will take. He says there are posted detours, and that the bridge will remain open for pedestrian traffic.
