Senator Charles Schumer says that more regulations are needed for retailers who track customers on their smartphones.

Schumer says stores like Family Dollar, Swatch and American Apparel use new technology allowing them to track customers' every move. Schumer wants the Federal Trade Commission to allow customers to "opt out" of the tracking. Schumer says most customers are unaware of the tracking. He says they should at least be told it's happening and be given an opportunity to not participate. Alternatively, customers can always avoid such tracking by turning off Wi-Fi or putting their phones on airplane mode while shopping.
