Madison County Sheriff Alan Riley says that a sheriff's deputy and New York State trooper are responsible for saving the live of a woman June 13.

According to Sheriff Riley, police responded to a woman who threatened to jump off the gorge at Chittenango Falls State Park in the town of Cazenovia. When efforts by Deputy Shawn Burbridge and Trooper Miles Robertson to talk her back from the edge failed, Burbridge fastened himself to a fence using a rope and approached the woman. She attempted to jump, but Burbridge was able to hold her and prevent it. Trooper Robinson then pulled the two back from the edge toward the fence.

Sheriff Riley says he normally doesn't report such incidents. but felt inclined due to what he called the "heroic action" taken by Burbridge and Robertson.
