Members of the Syracuse Police Department responded to Essex St. at about 10:40 PM last night after 911 received calls that a man had just been attacked by a pitbull dog.
They located 51 year old Steven Cruse who had sustained serious injuries after he was attacked by a pitbull. Cruse told police his German Shepard was outside in front of the residence when the German Shepard was attacked by two pitbulls.
Cruse helped to break up the dog fight, then told the owner of the pitbulls that he was calling the police. One pitbull then attacked Cruse causing serious injury to his arm and hand. The owner of the pitbulls then fled the scene with his dogs. Cruse was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was treated for several dog bites.
The subsequent investigation resulted in police locating the owner of the pitbulls who was identified as 29 year old Eric Bacon of 130 Mains Ave. in Syracuse.
Bacon was charged with the felony of Assault in the First Degree and lodged in the Justice Center. Bacon is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow in Syracuse City Criminal Court. The two pitbull dogs were turned over to the authorities pending the investigation.
