Madison County Sheriffs Deputies have arrested two women and have charged them with felony counts of welfare fraud after police say they bilked the system out of more than ten thousand dollars.
38 year old Hope Layo of East Syracuse is accused of stealing more than two thousand dollars in welfare benefits. She was actually living in Onondaga County and claiming benefits in Madison County instead.
30 year old Adrianne Wagoner of Canastota is accused of bilking the system for even more. She's accused of falsifying her welfare application claiming that her three children lived with her when the children had not lived with her for more than a year. She's accused of false claims totalling more than seven thousand dollars.
If convicted, both could face up to four years in prison on welfare fraud charges and one year for offering a false instrument for filing.
