The world’s first cell phones were sold 30 years ago – and they looked a lot different back then than they do now.

The phone was a handheld model called the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X – and it cost a staggering $3,995.

Weighing in at nearly two pounds, the 8000X was so big, its creators even nicknamed it “The Brick.”

Back then, cellphones were considered toys for rich people, with rich people using them more for show than for actual convenience.
