Syracuse Stands Tall In Non-Conference Play

posted by Tom Owens -

The Syracuse Orange is one of the country’s youngest teams this year, yet has a non-conference record of 11-2.  Let me tell you folks, this is big. This is our best non-conference performance since 2013-14, where we won our first 25 games.  After winning Wednesday against Western Michigan, Syracuse’s NCAA RPI is 16th.

That means the consistency is there, as we have not lost to a team outside the top 30 in RPI.  We also boast three wins in the top 100 against Oakland (No. 100), Maryland (No. 64) and Buffalo (No. 42).  Of course we have some tough games coming up, and we still have to prove ourselves against bigger teams like Duke.  The ACC proves to be the Orange’s biggest test yet, but since the non-conference play was so good, we can have a decent ACC season rather than being in the hole and having to win like crazy.

Being a Syracuse alum, I am excited to see how the year unfolds for these young players.  Here’s to the New Year and a bright future!
