China is no longer accepting Americas recyclables, a decision which has globally affected the market and resulted in a more than $2 Million shortfall in Onondaga that needs to be offset by an increase in cost for trash haulers by 8% from $89 to $96. This cost is probably going to be passed on to consumers, so expect your garbage bill to increase in the coming months.
The Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency is paid $3.1 million a year by the City of Syracuse to remove about 35,000 tons of garbage. That 8% increase in costs to trash haulers could cost the City more than $245,000 more on top of that. The city folds Trash hauling costs in with property taxes so this will likely complicate things for them on that front.
