Local Schools Use Technology to Communicate During Emergencies

School safety is everyone’s top priority lately. Onondaga-Cortland-Madison BOCES is taking the initiative with the installation of a new software known as NaviGate Prepared. This new software will let educators to communicate during an emergency to better protect themselves and their students.

From a fire drill to an active shooter situation, the application allows staff in the building to know what's going on and where. It allows more than 12 districts in Central New York to communicate in real time.

In the future, Daignault said he wants to include law enforcement on the technology. However, though the app compliments the current routine, it will never replace a simple call to 911.
