Rep. John Katko broke ranks with the Republican party on a House rules vote proposed by the new Majority Democrats this past Thursday. He voted in favor of making it easier for bills to reach the floor, which enables more bipartisan bills to be seen by the House. Katko is a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus along with the only two other Republicans to vote in favor of this rules change. The problem Solvers Caucus is a group of 48 members of congress that are equal parts Republican and Democrat who work to break the gridlock in Washington DC.
Katko has been known for breaking rank with Republicans, his last term voting against a new healthcare bill that didn't include coverage for pre-existing conditions.
