The Camillus Canal Society will be hosting the annual Towpath Day on Saturday, August 10, 2019 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. The event will be held on the grounds of the Camillus Erie Canal Park at 5750 Devoe Road in Camillus, New York. Free parking and shuttle will be available from the NYSDOT parking lot on Devoe Road.
Among the activities will be “Make & Take” crafts for children, including crafts by The Home Depot. Other activities include crafts and demonstrations, raffles, a steam engine demonstration, a visit with Paddy the mule, and a working blacksmith. Narrated boat rides on the historic Erie Canal will feature the Legacy of the Canal. Several vendors will be offering products for sale. Entertainment will feature renowned guitarist Loren Barrigar, The Soda Ash 6 Dixieland Jazz Band, the Harmony Katz, and the Morris Dancers.
The start of Towpath Day will be preceded by the 9th Annual Rotary Muleskinner 5K Run/Walk, sponsored by the Camillus Solvay Geddes Rotary Club. This race helps raise funds for youth programs and services. The race begins at the Camillus Firehouse and runs along the Canal’s towpath and adjacent streets.
The Camillus Erie Canal Park is part of the Town of Camillus Park system as well as the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor. Sims Store Museum combines the old-fashioned charm of a canal store complete with exhibits, early photos, maps of the canal, and models of locks, aqueducts, and canal boats. The Steam Engine Exhibit is a truly unique opportunity to see a full-size, restored, turn-of-the-century steam powered power plant and learn about the technology that was “hot” during the industrial revolution of America.
This is a USATF Certified 5K race. For more information:
