Unfortunately, Vodka Will Not Sterilize Your Hands!

Bottle of vodka in distillery

As we are sure have noticed, the corona virus scare has led to a run on hand sanitizer and bottles of isopropyl alcohol. These products are in scare supply. As people can use isopropyl alcohol to make their own hand sanitizer, one person decided to go a step further when he decided to use Tito’s Handmade Vodka to make homemade hand sanitizer. There is a problem with this though!

The individual tweeted to the company that the vodka not only cleaned his hands, but that it helped him feel “good at the same time.” The company replied back by warning customers not to follow this person’s example.

Tito’s reminded people that, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), hand sanitizer needs to be at least 60% isopropyl alcohol to be effective against germs and viruses. Tito’s Handmade Vodka is only 40% alcohol and does not meet CDC standards. So while this person may be enjoying his Tito’s, he is not sterilizing his hands! Sorry dude, keep searching for that Purell Hand Sanirizer, if you can find it!
