Former American Idol contestant Jimmie Allen is returning to the hit competition series in its upcoming 20th season. Allen will serve as a guest mentor, and he “cannot wait for you guys to see the talent they have in store for you,” he said in an announcement from Disney Aulani. Pop artist Bebe Rexha also announced that she’ll guest mentor during the “iconic 20th season” of the beloved show.
The new season of American Idol is set to premiere on Sunday, February 27. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie are set to return on the panel of celebrity judges. It’s all hosted by Ryan Seacrest. See Allen’s and Rexha's announcements here:
Allen, the Academy of Country Music’s reigning New Male Artist of the Year, is set to co-host the 57th ACM Awards next month, alongside “Footprints On The Moon” singer Gabby Barrett and country music icon Dolly Parton. Allen is also nominated in the Male Artist of the Year category, along with Luke Combs, Thomas Rhett, Chris Stapleton and Morgan Wallen. The show is set for March 7.
This week, Allen also celebrated his third No. 1 song, his summer anthem with Brad Paisley, “Freedom Was A Highway.” Allen said in a statement: “Working with Brad was great. I have been a fan of him since his career started and have always wanted to work with him. I’m honored to call him a collaborator and friend.”
