Walker Montgomery and Krista Slaubaugh of Tigirlily Gold are engaged!
Montgomery, country artist and son of John Michael Montgomery, proposed after nearly two years of dating on Monday (May 26). The bride-to-be told PEOPLE she “was overwhelmed in the best way” when her fiancé popped the question during a surprise trip to North Carolina. Montgomery and Slaubaugh shared their story with the publication — plus engagement photos by Callie Lynch Photography, which capture a glimpse of the stunning ring — on Wednesday (May 28).
“You wait for that moment your whole life, and I just wanted to remember and soak it in as much as possible,” added Slaubaugh, who performs in award-winning duo Tigirlily Gold with her sister, Kendra Slaubaugh.
Montgomery admitted he was “a little nervous” ahead of the proposal, but everything fell into place. Slaubaugh told PEOPLE of the heartwarming moment, “he said, 'Krista, I want you to be my wife. Will you marry me?' I said 'yes' and immediately leaned down to kiss him,” when he proposed. She said the gorgeous ring is “perfect,” describing it as “elegant but still is modern and feels like me.” The Tigirlily Gold star added that she “couldn’t have imagined (the proposal) more perfect.”
