The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for parts of Central New York, including Onondaga, Oneida, and Madison counties, from Thursday (November 27) afternoon through Saturday (November 29) morning. Forecasters predict that up to seven inches of snow could fall due to lake effect snow, which could create hazardous travel conditions during the busy Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Winds may gust as high as 40 mph, potentially leading to blowing and drifting snow and whiteout conditions.

According to Syracuse.com, the storm watch has been extended to include Syracuse and other parts of Central New York. The weather service warns that visibility could be significantly reduced, impacting holiday travel.

CNY Central reports that while road conditions will be mainly wet in the days leading up to the storm, Friday is expected to be particularly challenging for travel. The forecast predicts cold temperatures with highs in the lower 30s and snow-covered roads.

Flack Broadcasting adds that the storm watch also affects Jefferson, Lewis, Herkimer, and Oswego counties, with snow accumulations potentially reaching up to 10 inches in some areas. Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and prepare for rapidly changing conditions.
