Central New York is under a Winter Weather Advisory today (December 2) as a storm system brings heavy snowfall to the region. The advisory, which began at 2 a.m., will remain in effect until 6 p.m. this evening for Northern Oneida, Southern Oneida, Madison, and Onondaga counties. According to the National Weather Service, snowfall is expected to range from three to six inches, with localized amounts reaching up to seven inches in higher elevations, particularly in Cortland, Madison, and Oneida counties.

The snowfall rates could reach an inch per hour during the morning commute, potentially causing hazardous road conditions. The weather service advises drivers to slow down and exercise caution, as slippery roads may impact both the morning and evening commutes. Travelers are encouraged to check current road conditions by calling 511 and to avoid driving if possible.

For those who must travel, the weather service suggests preparing vehicles with essential winter supplies, such as a windshield scraper, jumper cables, and extra warm clothing. They also recommend sharing travel plans with family or friends and being cautious of snow plows on the roads.
