WOW - Kids Find A WWI Practice Bomb On A Beach!

“Mom, look what we found! Can we keep it?” Parents throughout time have heard this refrain from their children. Usually it’s a dog, a cat, or some shell on a beach. However, two girls from Michigan found something that I’m sure stunned their parents: a World War I practice bomb!

Paige Burnett, 10, and Sage Menzies, 9, were swimming in Lobdell Lake when they found an item partially buried in the sand under the water. With the help of Paige’s mother, they were able to bring it to the surface. When they realized what it might be, they called the Michigan State Police. The bomb squad determined it was a M2 practice bomb from World War I, and was not dangerous.

Paige and Sage were allowed to keep the relic. “We were super excited that we had found this instead of just something metal,” Sage said. “We were saying ‘We could be famous,’” she continued. Well put, Sage. You did get your 15 minutes of fame. Congratulations!
