Do not try to feed the kangaroos carrots! You will be sorry if you do. It seems that tourists in Lake Macquarie, Australia, have been ignoring signs that tell them to not feed the marsupials the carrots. The result: the kangaroos are attacking the tourists!
Carrots are a high-sugar food that is particularly bad for the kangaroos. As a result, they become addicted to the vegetable and become highly aggressive when they see the carrot. Michelle Shaw, a nutritionist at Sydney's Taronga Zoo, said that a kangaroo’s diet consists of grass, so when they see the carrot coming, they want to feed that addiction. Plus, the sugar can be harmful to the kangaroo’s health.
There are photos on Facebook of kangaroos kicking tourists, scratching their faces, and a photo of a man with a bloody gouge on his stomach! Kangaroos are a top tourist draw in Australia, but do yourself a favor if you decide to visit: leave the package of carrots at home!
