A Rochester Institute of Technology student is very grateful that she had a “white angel” show up to help her after a fall while she was on a 3-day solo hiking adventure in Anchorage, Alaska. Amelia Milling, 21, who is deaf, fell 600 feet after her trekking pole broke. As she laid there in shock, Nookie, a Crow Creek husky guide dog just happened to show up!
Over the next 24 hours, Nookie would help her. First, Nookie got Milling back to the trail, where they stayed the night together. Next, when Milling slipped and fell into Eagle River, Nookie, still with her, helped her out of the river!
Milling changed clothes and got into her sleeping bag when Nookie began licking her face. She then realized she needed help, so she hit SOS on her satellite messenger which allowed rescue teams to find her. Both Milling and Nookie are fine. Nookie returned to his owner, but not without some much deserved love and kisses from Amelia!!
