The Great New York State Fair will offer visitors a glimpse of maritime history this year. An exhibit, titled “Path Through Maritime History:Lighthouses and Life Saving,” will tell the story of New York’s 70 lighthouses. The lighthouses still stand today, spanning from Long Island to Lake Erie.
The exhibit’s organizers want to promote the lifesaving heritage of the lighthouses in order to promote historic tourism destinations in New York State. Displays and artifacts will be included in the exhibit.
The New York Sea Grant is one of the exhibit’s sponsors. Funding for the Sea Grant is provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The New York State Fair runs from August 22 through Labor Day, September 3. Make sure to check the exhibit out!
