The New York State Fair is full of places to eat! You can find just about anything you crave by walking the grounds during a visit to the Fair. What you don’t see is the strict health inspections the vendors must adhere too and pass before their food is made available to the public.
The Onondaga County Health Department is responsible for the inspections during the Fair. Among the items inspectors look for are hot water, gloves, hats, cleaning supplies, ensuring that food and cleaning supplies are separated from each other, and that supplies are at least six inches off the ground. Vendors must also have sanitizer buckets available at all times.
Fairgoers appreciate the fact that the vendors are monitored by the Health Department. “It gives you security,” said Joe Bordonaro. “It gives you ease of mind,” he continued. Linda Baker owns Sweeties Bloomers along with her husband, Allen. “They go through everything which is really good,” Linda said. She also mentioned that vendors expect surprise visits from the Health Department over the course of the Fair. So enjoy the Fair and the food!
