The Great New York State Fair has already broken a few single day attendance records. As a result, many local businesses are also seeing an increase in attendance. The Gem Diner is just one of the local businesses seeing an increase in patrons.
“The foot traffic in the place almost doubles during the fair. It’s crazy,” said Anthony Lalone, general manager of The Gem Diner. With vendors, employees, and visitors filling his booths, Lalone says that “breakfast is huge, lunch is huge, dinner is huge."
Hotels are also seeing an increase in business. One hotel employee said that they were sold out part of last week and are sold out again this week. Troy Waffner, acting Fair Director, said that the Fair spends over a million dollars promoting the event which helps draw out-of-town Fair goers. Based on the increase business he is seeing, I’m sure Anthony Lalone would agree with that!
