By the end of 2020, the New York State Thruway will be cash free as the State converts to cashless tolls. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the plan during his State of the State address earlier this year.
Executive Director of the New York State Thruway, Matthew Driscoll, said that cashless electronic tolling will be “fully instituted by the end of 2020.” Driscoll further added that drivers should get an E-Z Pass. E-Z Pass customers are immediately charged. Drivers without an E-Z Pass will receive a bill in the mail.
Cameras will be installed that will capture the license plate numbers of all vehicles that go through the electronic toll system. The system is already functional at Grand Island and Western New York, so the cashless tolling is already starting to take over. Sounds like I need to get an E-Z Pass soon, huh?
