Syracuse Police and Fire Are Bringing Christmas Magic to CNY

The holidays are supposed to be a cheerful time for all. Unfortunately this is not always the case. Members of the Syracuse Fire Department and Syracuse Police Department are helping to bring back Christmas magic to those suffering this holiday season. 55 Syracuse firefighters and 15 Syracuse police officers are making Christmas wishes come true for 39 children. All of the children chosen have been victims of fires, accidents, medical emergencies or other unfortunate circumstances this past year.

This Saturday all 39 children will be brought to Destiny USA for a day of fun! Each child will receive a $225 gift card, winter hats and gloves, custom Syracuse Fire Department Christmas tree ornaments, and ornaments donated by Regan’s Acts of Kindness, Inc. They will finish their day with lunch, and pictures with Santa in front of a fire truck.

This is the 6th year the fire department has participated in the event. “It is the largest event of its kind in the country,” said John Kane, District Chief. “We are honored to be able to bring smiles to the children’s faces.”

All the gifts this year were donated by IAFF Local 280, the SFD Credit Union, the SFD Association, and FOCUS (Firefighters of Color United in Syracuse).
