The national weather service has announced a winter storm warning in effect for the following locations through Thursday, January 10, 2019.
- Onondaga County
- Madison County
- Southern Cayuga Counties
They are forecasting heavy lake effect snow. Total snow accumulations will range from 5 to 10 inches, with local amounts up to 12 inches expected. Wind gusts will be as high as 40 mph. There will be drifting snow with these high winds, so BE CAREFUL if you are on the roads.
Travel could be very difficult in this storm. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact morning and evening commutes tomorrow.
A Winter Storm Warning for heavy lake effect snow means significant amounts of lake effect snow are forecast that will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
