A veterinary facility in northern New York has taken in a bald eagle after she broke her wing last week. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officers were alerted of an injured bald eagle on Route 24 roadside in Oxbow on February 20th.
The female eagle has been estimated to be at least 13 years old and was previously tagged by DEC biologists in January, 2008. DEC officers stated it was likely the eagle was feeding on the side of the road and was hit by a car. Her left wing was broken and was unable to fly.
“The eagle is expected to make a full recovery and will eventually be released back into the wild” said DEC officials.
