Attendance rose above 1 million for all privately run events at The New York State Fair in 2018. That is the first time we’ve ever had a turnout that large. The attendance of 1,074,909 people was an increase of almost 30% over the attendance in 2017.
I recently attended The NYS Winter Fair. With the new Exposition Center, there are events and things to do at the NYS Fairgrounds almost all the time. This is an excellent way to attract people to our great city.
Since 2015, Governor Cuomo has invested $120 million in the Fairgrounds to revitalize a 375-acre facility that had not previously seen any significant investment by the state in 80 years. The plan replaced an aging grandstand and race track that sat empty 50 weeks each year with a busy, full-service RV park, a large space for the Fair's Midway, and an “attractive” festival ground.
The Governor has proposed adding $2.5 million to the Fair's annual allocation for capital projects to continue the revitalization of the Fairgrounds in the FY 2020 executive budget.
This is excellent news, and I look forward to attending many more events at the New York State Fairgrounds in the coming months and years.
