Music Can Reduce Stress, But Is Particularly Helpful For Older Individuals

We know that listening to music is beneficial in reducing stress. Many of us listen to music while at work, mowing the lawn, or doing repairs around the house. However, a recent study has found an interesting fact: listening to music is most beneficial in relieving stress in older individuals!

Research done by Queens University Belfast showed that while music reduced stress levels in individuals in all age levels, older people received the most benefit! This was true regardless whether the person was listening to the radio or to self-chosen music.

In addition, older individuals who listened to music also showed a boost in positive emotions. In conclusion, the study’s author, Dr. Jenny Groarke, said that “The results of this study support the idea that listening to music supports coping with stress across the lifespan.” Keep your radios tuned to our station, folks! We are here to help!
