What would the Great New York State Fair be without the Midway? Probably not as much fun for many people. There are over 70 rides on the Midway, all geared to give fairgoers thrills and chills as they enjoy the ride of their choice. More importantly, fair officials take the safety of the rides along the Midway very seriously!
The rides have been set up for over a week now, and fair officials and ride operators check them every day to ensure that they are in safe working order! According to Eileen Franko, Director of Safety and Health at the New York State Department of Labor, ride inspections take top priority. “If something isn’t fixed or corrected, we don’t let them run until that’s been corrected,” Franko said.
Rides are inspected before they are assembled, once they has been completely assembled, and every day during the fair. Inspectors also walk around the Midway to make sure safety rules are also being followed. Each ride also has the date posted when it was last inspected along with the initials of the inspector who did the inspection. So enjoy the rides on the Midway and know that fair officials take your safety seriously!
