I'm all for checking out how a robot works and what it can do - At least once.
But I saw a story recently that said that a hotel in Buffalo, NY is now having what they call a "Relay Robot" make deliveries to rooms. It can carry smaller items and deliver them to different rooms on different floors. The robot can even call your room to let you know when it is outside. It can even open and close elevator doors on its own.
Not only that, but the robot keeps your food warm, and can sense when you open a door. When you do, it opens up to give you your food.
Now, I'm all for checking out cool gadgets like this. But doesn't this sort of take away the human aspect of visiting a hotel, even just a little bit? I love visiting places and seeing the butlers, the attendants at the desk, the cleaning people - It's all part of the experience. What happens if they all become robots one day? What kind of genuine human experience will that be for our children? I don't know!
