We have a big monument that has "Palmer" on it. I remember when I first saw it that I was a little unnerved by the sight of our family name on such a big stone. The family brought the stone in by train long before I was here. Now all kinds of Aunts and Uncles and Grandparents and great Grandparent are there. We are burying my Aunt in a few weeks at the cemetery, so Mom and I went down to check and make sure everything was neat and orderly.
What a massive cemetary!
We had to stop at the office and I picked up a flyer that lists walks and presentations that are regularly featured at the place. Many famous, rich dignitary from the Syracuse area are there like the Baum family. Yes, the Baum family, the Frank L. Baum family. Frank wrote the book "The Wizard of Oz" and many other books too. They are buried in Section 24.
The next walking tour is Sunday, August 20th featuring "What's Old is New in Section 52". Folks from all walks of life are the residents in that section with stories to be heard. I want to go on one of these tours. Oakwood cemetary has 764 Civil War Veterans buried there.
Hmmmm….pretty interesting stuff. I have always been kind of intrigued by different and odd things though.
