This year’s Grammy Awards was an event you do not want to miss out on. Many memorable performances by some great musicians and several surprising awards were issued throughout the night.
Kendrick Lamar, who released his critically-acclaimed album DAMN. last year, offered the show-opening performance which blended complex choreography with rapid-fire raps and a barrage of all-star guests. Most surprising, perhaps, is that Kendrick had rewritten many of his lyrics to ensure there would be no silences or bleeps from CBS.
In what one would hope to be a touching tribute to the victims of the tragedy in Las Vegas last year, Eric Church, Maren Morris, and the Brothers Osborne offered a country music cover of Eric Clapton’s 1992 hit, Tears in Heaven. Many have criticized this choice wondering why a classic rock song was chosen for the tribute.
James Corden brought his Carpool Karaoke shenanigans this year, bringing Sting and Shaggy in on a “Subway Karaoke” bit, performing old hits and a new collaboration on a New York City subway. The collaboration was reused both as walk-on music for sting and as a stage performance.
