I love Otto the Orange! Every time I see him, I can't help but smile. But, did you know that Otto wasn't always the mascot? According to Syracuse University, one of it's earliest mascots was named Vita the Goat! There was the Saltine Warrior, but that mascot was sidelined after people protested against its derogatory depiction of Native Americans. Throw in a Roman gladiator and a Superman-esque figure into the mix before Otto came along.
Today Otto is beloved by all and I can't wait to see him at this year's NCAA tournament! SU did a little video about the history of the Orange and what a typical day is like for Otto. You got to check it out!
