Winter in Syracuse can seem like it goes on forever! In mid April it is still snowing. Temperatures of 33 degrees is about 20 degrees below normal for this time of year! Take some comfort in the fact that warmer weather is in the forecast for next week, and that the Climate Prediction Center says that the odds for a warmer-than-normal spring are favorable.
So, how much snow did Syracuse get this Winter? The answer in just a minute, but first let's reminisce for a minute. The first snowfall occurred on October 31, 2017. In fact, before Winter actually started on December, 21st, Syracuse already had 24.7 inches of snow! In a 66 hour span in January, just under 20 inches of snow fell in our area. On March 2nd, a storm gave us 16.7 inches of snow. That's the snowiest March 2nd on record!
So as we, hopefully, move on to Spring in this area, the question becomes, "Did we have more snow than the average snowfall of 123.8 inches in the Syracuse area?" Of course, we did! Syracuse got a grand total of 153 inches this Winter. Whew!
