Wow! What an announcement from Syracuse University on Monday! SU announced that it will spend $118 million on improvements on the Carrier Dome. The renovations will include a new permanent roof, a vertically hung scoreboard, and air conditioning! The upgrade will address many of the concerns patrons have complained about for years.
According to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Amir Rahnamay-Azar, the project will be paid for using fundraising, university resources, and borrowing. At this time, no public money is involved. The planned renovations will be done in stages, and is scheduled to be completed by Fall of 2022.
Vice President and chief facilities officer Pete Sala said the the renovations are not scheduled to affect any home games for the football, basketball, or lacrosse seasons, although he hopes to get some flexibility by reformatting the 2020 football season. Having these changes done should add to the enjoyment of the modern day sports fan!
