Some brave folks took on more than just their fear of heights this weekend by joining the effort to raise money for the McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy center for abused children. Ten stories high and all strapped up they rappelled down the side of the building and garnered sponsors and donations totaling above $60,000 altogether. Some people even raised over $5,000 just on their own! That is something very special, and seeing the community rally around this cause is extraordinary. What’s best about this event is the heart racing adrenaline fueled fun, all for a great cause- it doesn’t get much better than that!
One women showed everyone that it doesn’t matter how many years you’ve got under your belt as long as you’re ready to strap in and take the plunge- Carmen Yetman has 77 years to her name and she still raised well over her goal of $2,000 and rappelled down the side of the One Park Place office building to the ground. Groups of people cheered for her on the sidewalk, and it gave me a real big smile. So much community in this old city! Carmen told Syracuse.com that she was a seasoned skydiver before heart problems stopped her, so this was a chance to get back to her old adrenaline junky fun. Thanks Carmen!
