This past week was the first week of school for many kids around Central New York. Greeting kids as they arrived on the first day at the Syracuse City elementary schools were Syracuse firefighters. As kids got off the bus and walked in, firefighters handed out pencils to them with fire safety messages on them. Deputy Chief of the Syracuse Fire Department Elton Davis says that it's just a small act of kindness that can go a long way for kids on the first day.
This is the 3rd year that the fire department has done this and it helps kids come into school with a positive attitude on their first day. The fire department wants to remind kids that they are on their side and support them by showing up on the first day.
