On Saturday it was announced that State Senator David Valesky secured 300,000 in funding through the Aid and Incentives for Municipalities program. This funding will be used to provide 110 cameras and supporting technology to the police department.
Training for this new program will begin in October with about 15 officers and expanding from there. Syracuse officials will seek more grant money for further expansion of this program.
Mayor Ben Walsh stated, “Body cameras provide protection to both the police and members of the community, and we hope they will increase trust between officers and residents."
