If It's Autumn, It Must Be Time For Apple Picking!

With Autumn starting this weekend, you know that’s time to go apple picking!  New York State is the number 2 apple producer in the country (Washington state is number 1), and there are many orchards that you can visit right here in Central New York!

Here are a few more apple facts that you might find interesting. More than 1 billion pounds of apples are produced annually. Onondaga County has more than 30 orchards for apple picking. 60 percent of all apples are sold in stores and supermarkets, leaving the rest for processing. The apple industry in New York accounts for $317 million!

So whether your favorite apple is macintosh, honeycrisp, empire, or cortland, get out on a crisp autumn day and pick some of New York’s finest varieties. It’s a great way to spend a day with the family!
