Water Street Bagel Company, located at 239 East Water Street, officially opened last Friday. What makes this bagel business so special? Well their bagels are wood-fried! The bagels are made in a wood-fried oven. The yeast rises slowly, is then boiled, then baked. The bagels are softer and chewier (New York style).
Owners Meg Dellas and Luke Esposito did plenty of research before opening their business. They visited bagel stores in Philadelphia and New Jersey, took bagel-making classes, and spoke with other bagel store owners on bagel techniques.
Bagel varieties include plain, sesame seed, everything, multi-grain, rosemary salt, and French toast. Bagels start at a$1.50. The menu includes breakfast bagel sandwiches and lunch bagel sandwiches. Water Street Bagel is open 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM weekdays and 8:00 AM till 2:00 PM on weekends. Hours may fluctuate until the staff adjusts to demand. Stop by and give them a try!
