Cities are turning to start-up tech companies to solve some city problems, as part of the Startup in Residence program. This program connects start-ups with government agencies.
Syracuse is looking for tech help in five areas.
Snow- developing unmanned machinery that can clear sidewalks
Permits- develop a better way to update permits
Garbage- track the amount of trash coming from each property
Security Deposit- develop a no-interest loan for security deposits and improve housing stability
Emergency Response- develop a way to notify the community about violent or traumatic events
Syracuse has issued a proposal for companies to apply to the program, with the deadline being Tuesday November 6th. The program will start in January, giving the chosen companies 16 weeks to design solutions. In the spring, each company will have the chance to showcase their solution. Then, the city will decide whether to invest in the solutions/products showcase.
