George Costanza is coming to Syracuse? In a way, yes! Jason Alexander, who played the iconic role on the sit-com, “Seinfeld,” has been tapped to direct the musical, “The Last Five Years,” at Syracuse Stage this coming spring. The play was written and composed by Jason Robert Brown. The musical will run from May 29 until June 26, 2019.
Alexander, who also won the 1989 Tony Award for Best Lead Actor in a musical for “Jerome Robbins’ Broadway,” played George Costanza on “Seinfeld” from 1989 until 1998. He was nominated for six Emmy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards for his portrayal of the neurotic Costanza.
Syracuse Stage artistic director, Robert Hupp, is happy to work with Alexander again. “Jason and I worked together at my previous theater,” Hupp said. Since his appointment as artistic director, Hupp has been working with Alexander to find a time when Jason could “direct at Syracuse Stage.” Sounds like they worked it out! Tickets go on sale on November 20.
