The Rosamond Gifford Zoo will be the place to be this coming Sunday if you want to see some happy animals receive their Christmas presents. The Zoo will present its annual “Holidays with the Animals” on Sunday, December 9th. The event will take place from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm and is included in your zoo admission. Zoo members will be admitted free of charge.
Staff members collected 60 cardboard boxes, wrapped them in non-foil paper, and used non-toxic glue instead of tape. Holes will be cut in the boxes and they will be filled with appropriate treats according to the species of the animal. The animals are then given their “gifts” while those in attendance watch the animals enjoy ripping open the boxes and enjoying their treats!
The event is part of the zoo’s “enrichment program.” “Enrichment means finding ways to keep the animals stimulated, curious, and active by adding variety to their daily lives,” said Zoo Director Ted Fox. According to Fox, enrichment is a daily practice at the zoo. Sounds great for the animals!
